About us

LifeRites Foundation has been at the heart of meaningful ceremony since 1996. Founded to offer a deeply personal and inclusive alternative to traditional rites of passage, LifeRites now supports a global community of Celebrants who conduct unique, heartfelt ceremonies across the world.

We understand that many people today identify as non-religious, follow minority spiritual paths, or simply don’t fit within conventional labels of belief. LifeRites exists to serve those seeking ceremonies that truly reflect their individual values, beliefs, and ways of life.

Our Celebrants are trained to honour all cultures, spiritual paths, and lifestyles. Whether marking a birth, a marriage, a death, or another significant transition, we specialise in creating ceremonies that bridge the space between religion and humanism—sometimes weaving together elements of multiple faiths to reflect the lives being celebrated.

LifeRites has also been recognised in academic and professional spheres. Our expertise has been sought by the London School of Economics, and in 1998 our course module on Death and Dying was included in a Master’s degree programme on the subject.

Every LifeRites ceremony is crafted with integrity, sensitivity, and respect. We expect our Celebrants to uphold the highest standards, guided always by our four foundational principles:

  • Professionalism

  • Service

  • Respect

  • Responsibility

Together, we help individuals and communities create sacred, transformative moments that truly speak from—and to—the heart.

At the heart of our mission is the recognition of an often-overlooked community—those whose spiritual needs fall outside the structures of mainstream organised religion. Whether identifying as Pagan, Druid, Heathen, Wiccan, Shamanic, Earth-Centred, or simply spiritually attuned to nature and ancient wisdom, we believe everyone deserves access to meaningful spiritual support—especially in times of vulnerability.

In hospitals, hospices, prisons, and other institutions, spiritual care is often available to many recognised faith groups, but those walking alternative or nature-based paths may find no such support. Our aim is to change that.

We are committed to strengthening the presence, training, and visibility of Pagan and nature-based Chaplains, ensuring they are equipped with the practical tools, legal awareness, and pastoral skills needed to provide care with professionalism and confidence. We also advocate for equal recognition within institutions, so our Chaplains can work alongside others with parity of esteem.
